3.5 Polygons

Poly- Many

~CHARACTERISTICS OF A POLYGON~             ~EXAMPLES~
- A polygon must be a closed figure.                             M is not a polygon because it is not closed.
- A polygon can't have any curved sides or lines.           D is not a polygon because it has a curve.
- Segments can't overlap.                                             A is not a polygon because sides overlap.
- Must have at least three sides.                                    L is not a polygon because it has only two lines.

~TYPES OF POLYGONS~                                      ~EXAMPLES~
Convex- No points are inside the figure.                      -square, triangle
Concave- Has at least one point inside the figure.         -star, hourglass

~DIAGONALS~
- From one point in the shape to another
- Make triangles
- Must stay inside the figure

  etc.             etc.                                               etc.

~REGULAR POLYGONS~                            ~EXAMPLES~
- equal angular                                                  a regular triangle has all 60 degree angles
- equilateral                                                       a regular triangle could have all three inch long sides
